The Nude Party from the album Rides On on New West Records (by Bryant Liggett)
The Nude Party are well on their way to building a most impressive catalog of Indie Rock. A short list thus far, but each one has built on the previous; they’re consistently good, with the latest in Ride On adding to what’s so far, a killer collection. This is what laid-back, care-free soundtrack for your worry-less weekend should sound like.
A singular riff kicks off the record with “Word Gets Around;” it’s a laid back groover that ultimately drops sweet background ‘bops’. “Midnight on Lafayette Park” has a 1930’s lounge vibe, “Polly Anne” has punchy honky-tonk piano, and they channel, give a nod to, and honor The Velvet Underground on the title track. “Tree of Love” is a 2023 tap to the British Invasion, “Somebody Tryin’ to Hoodoo Me” is a bit of North Mississippi Psychedelic Blues, and the closer in “Red Rocket Ride” is harmonica heavy, Indie Folk.
What an album! The Nude Party does decades old, Brit-inspired Blues Rock, pre- and post-Punk, and a Folkie jangle, while also keeping both feet firmly planted in 2023. There are layers of instrumentation, loads of subtle, head-sticking riffs, and a fun, garage rock, boogie vibe. There’s nothing NOT to love about Ride On; heavy organ, punchy guitar solos and an overall, laid-back GROOVE are the stars of this album. It’s 2023 with influences from 1965 Brit Rock, 1975 Psych Rock, and 1985 Punk Rock all mixed into a perfect cocktail of a record. (by Brynat Liggett)
