As a continuing educational effort, as well as honoring mentors, The Infamous Stringdusters follow a previous Bill Monroe-specific album release with A Tribute to Flatt & Scruggs. Beginning their careers as part of Bill Monroe’s band, The Blue Grass Boys, in 1945, Flatt & Scruggs left the group in 1948 to form Foggy Mountain Boys to back the duo act. While remembered as pioneers and curators of the Bluegrass genre, Flatt & Scruggs became timeless as a theme song for the Beverly Hillbillies, garnering their only #1 Country song. The Infamous Stringdusters celebrate Bluegrass heroes who formed a partnership in 1945 that lasted through 1969, The Stringdusters bassist, Travis Book, felt that the pair were ‘legendary. Without Earl Scruggs banjo, Bluegrass just doesn’t exist as we know it today’. The six-song E.P. asks “Will You Be Lonesome Too”, admitting “I’d Rather Be Alone” as it hops on “Down the Road” to find love. A Tribute to Flatt & Scruggs shares its love for the environment with “Blue Ridge Cabin Home” and “Cabin on the Hill” as The Infamous Stringdusters fly over “Earl’s Breakdown” with a fast-paced nod to a master player.
