The Hooten Hallers (from the album Back in Business Again available on The Hooten Hallers/Garlic Press Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
Missouri’s Hooten Hallers take a syringe of grit and inject it right through the heart of the Blues and Soul, respectively and respectfully. A prescriptive dose of medicinal musical goodness comes free with each track on Back in Business Again. The latest release from The Hooten Hallers is a supercharged sound of punky Americana that’s sleek though not overproduced nor squeaky clean. Back in Business Again is a rough around the edges sound, perfect for those in need of something outside the expected. The title track opener comes with a claim declaring that the band is ‘back in business again’, and they are ready to rumble. The fun starts and continues from there. “The Cobblers Children” is Punk Blues, The Hooten Hallers dropping dirty, soulful old school Rhythm & Blues for “Show Me” and Straight Down the Line”. “Now That I Know” and “Cat Scrap” are Boogie barnburners as The Hooten Hallers dig deep into Psychedelic Punk for the touring saga dubbed “Vankiller”. There is funky saxophone in “Broke the Spell” while “Heal It” is a strutting cut of self-belief doing a second line down Bourbon Street. The Hooten Hallers closer in “Even the Blues Gets the Blues” is a fantastic barroom lounge cut. The bass saxophone brings forth a little Morphine and a little Uz Jsme Doma, the Blues vibe a blast of raw, Texas Blues and the overall attitude is aggro-Punk. Back is Business Again is a rebirth load of glorious noise for The Hooten Hallers trio.
