Parker Gispert (from the album Golden Years available on Normaltown Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
Parker Gispert digs in. As front man for Georgia-based band The Whigs he is a part of the world of Roots, Psychedelic Garage Rock, leading a trio capable of delivering sounds for a heavy, heady head-bob. On his latest solo effort, Golden Years, the dude still pursues that Rock-induced head nod while also becoming a a heavy-handed singer-songwriter, and he does so in full pursuit of any and all other things that could fall into the realm of aggro-Roots Rock.
The title track album opener is a skippy groover with a with a subtle twangy guitar solo. It is upbeat and fun as Parker Gispert sings ‘golden years for everyone’, a tune one bent string away from being a Country Rocker. “All the Rage” opens with a great guitar riffs that gives way to a fuzzy-psych solo, that psychedlic vibe and power-chords carrying over to “Evil Euphoria”. Parker Gispert drops one for the stadium while keeping Indie cred. “Rock and Roll” could easily be picked up by the Rock radio crowd with its urging to follow along with the chorus of ‘rock and roll’ and its searing guitar solo.
“Stuck Inside Someone Else’s Dream” is another full-on Rocker while Parker Gispert even drops Lounge Pop in the dreamy “Moving On”. Golden Years is like getting handful of great 7-inches. A collection that hits on jangle and dance-groove, riffs, Jam, Rock’n’Roll, this is a contender for record of the year. (by Bryant Liggett)
