A new sonic Soul music is curated and captured on Baby Damn, the recent release from Liz Brasher. A revolving rhythm hammers the groove into a smooth cruise when Liz Brasher delivers the title track as Baby Damn admits to being “Broken Again” on a triphammer beat while a psychedelic guitar riff leads the way into the “Places” as the cut leans into a vintage Lounge music sway. Liz Brasher is the constant in the diversity soundscape that backs the tracks. The recording of Baby Damn, under the helm of producer Joe Chiccarelli, was West Coast based. The sound of Baby Damn channels the vintage sounds of the 1960’s and 70’s California Soul. Cool grooves and musical accents that support the songs and keep things fresh on multiple spins of the album. Recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound, Liz Brasher adding the angst she was experiencing as she made the move from Memphis, Tennessee to Los Angeles, CA. A heavy hand pounds out a slow march as Liz Brasher experiences ‘California dreamin’’ in “Better Bones”, begins the album song cycle with opening cut “Room to Ride” as the track hops on the endless SoCal highways and she talks of the transition with “Be in California”. Classic Soul supports Liz Brasher when she draws a line in “When I Stand” and floats on the dreamy melodies in “Slow Dance as she exits Baby Damn hoping to feel “Lucky”.
