Joe’s Truck Stop (from the album Yonderings available on Joseph Macheret Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
Like its namesake, Joe’s Truck Stop collects words of road wisdom, putting them on full display in Yonderings, the recent release from the Cincinnati-based band. While fully admitting to many missteps and wrong directions, Joe’s Truck Stop proudly marks itself safe from “Gas Station Sushi”, the tale championing the stoic side of hunger choices while traveling. The rhythm sways from side to side when Yonderings finds itself on a river barge in “Midnight on the Ohio” as it scratches out a fiddle entry for “Waltz for Lucille”, provides smiles for dancing feet with “Grease Fire”, keeping the fast-paced beat in place while adding Gypsy melody for “Pappy Hondo”.
A highway love song hears a lovers call over the gentle front porch acoustics in “Wishin’ on a Star” as Joe’s Truck Stop taps a foot to warm “Winter’s Waltz” and offers advice in “Smilin’ at Nothin’ (For Paul)”, exiting Yonderings with the tender gratitude found in “Thank You”.
