Ghost Hounds (from the album First Time Last available on Gibson Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
Lovers of Classic Rock often have no room for new music when seeking sounds familiar. Ghost Hounds are a Classic Rock band playing new music ready for the vintage sounds crowd. On their release, First Last Time, there are familiar melodies; guitar riffs and boogie keyboards delivering a dose of today with an old-school vibe.
There is Southern Rock Blues in album opener “Last Train to Nowhere” and a Roots Rock jam in “Dirty Angel while “Make it Shake” is a full-blown Boogie Rocker”. The beat in “Lets Sleep on It Together” has an early 1970’s Rolling Stones vibe with barroom piano, dirty guitar riffs, and killer background harmonies. “Here No More” kicks in with a Western-noir vibe and “Chasing You” is a piano driven Rocker. Ghost Hounds close First Time Last with two covers delivered with zero liberties. Led Zeppelin’s “Hot Dog” comes with the same bounce via the honky-tonk piano and the harmonies are heavy on John Denver’s “Country Roads.” Two great cover choices.
Southern Rock Blues. Rock and roll Boogie. A couple of killer covers, Ghost Hounds have landed on the right side of the radio dial and set up shop, a load of familiar for those who may not stray far from their musical beginnings and Rock’n’Roll radio, but just enough independent swagger to thrill Indie Rock lovers looking to dig deeper beyond nostaglia.
