7/16/2022 Caamp from the album Lavender Days
Caamp (from the album Lavender Days available on By and By Records / Mom+Pop Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
CAAMP has dropped your laidback fave summer album for 2022. Lavender Days is lazy and lush, a sweet and swift dose of mellow instrumentation and harmonies, a soft offering of quiet songs in a familiar yet diverse package. There’s an 80’s Indie feel to the opening chords of lead track “Come with Me Now”. “The Otter” is a gentle Pop song, the banjo giving the cut a hip Folk feel while “Apple Tree Blues” has stream of conscious lyrics that float like a fairy tale until the call ‘I could use a little rock and roll’ is delivered. Pure singalong fun. The title track is the heavy hitting love song for Lavender Days and “Fever” is a real gem, a sad R&B ballad blended with a two-stepping slow dance wrapped up with great twangy guitar fills. A subtle banjo returns for “Snowshoes” and the closer in “Sure Of” is demo raw and glorious in its roughness. Soft Folk is not in fact ‘Soft Rock’ as there is nothing schmaltzy about CAAMP like radio-friendly watered down for consumers Rock of a few decades ago. Lavender Days is aptly titled as it’s a ‘lavender listen’, a quiet and super-mellow audio experience, where AM Gold, easy sway Indie, and even a touch of Gospel comes on painted in your head with broad, lush, drifting strokes.
