When oil was discovered on their land, the Osage People became some of the wealthiest citizens of the United States, taking in $30 million ($500 million in 2023) in 1923 alone. By 1925 65 members of the Osage people had been murdered and the land deeded to their guardians, the lawyers and businessmen of Osage County, Oklahoma. Charley Crockett co-wrote (with T-Bone Burnett) “Killers of the Flower Moon” about the murders, and the cover-up, and the single lands in the peak position for the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday October 25, 2023.
