Heading out on the road to continue touring together, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, backed by The Guilty Ones, offer a new single. “Borderlands” sits way up at the top of the chart on a track, co-written by Jimmie Dale Gilmore and David Hammond, that pays tribute to the majesty of the Southwest desert. Of the storyline, Jimmie Dale shares that ‘the Big Bend of the Rio Grande River, which in Mexico is called Rio Bravo Del Norte, is one of the most magnificent geographical features of our world. It is a vast, rugged, and beautiful landscape that holds a mysterious attraction for some people. It is the borderland between two cultures, two countries, and, in a way, at least two contrasting worldviews. My wife and I have spent as much time there as possible for many years, and this song is an attempt to evoke a feeling of the place. A strange sense of something deeply familiar and yet, at the same time, completely alien. Maybe all true love songs are made of something like this’. The Band of Heathens predict “Stormy Weather” on a cut from their upcoming (03-17-23) release, Simple Things, while The Cash Box Kings check into “Oscar’s Motel”, the title track to their upcoming (03-17-23) release. Trapper Schoepp stirs the “Devil’s Kettle” with a cut from his upcoming (04-21-23) Siren Songs, Joy Oladokun sings of “Changes” on a track from her upcoming (04-28-23) Proof of Life, and Margo Price shares the love for “Shotgun Willie” on Willie Nelson shout out disc One Night in Texas – The Next Waltz Tribute to the Red-Headed Stranger (due 04-28-23). GA-20 take their music to the clubs, offering “By My Lonesome” as the first single for their upcoming (03-07-23) release, Live in Loveland. A Roots music supergroup finds fertile ground in the group Mighty Poplar (Andrew Marlin (Watchhouse), Noam Pikelny and Chris Eldridge (Punch Brothers), Greg Garrison (Leftover Salmon), and Alex Hargreaves (Billy Strings)), on the upcoming (03-31-23) self-titled release, signaling spring in “Up on the Divide”. Featuring members of Blind Pilot, River Whyless, and Horse Feathers, The Hackles are proud of the upcoming (04-07-23) release, titling the effort Look What a Beautiful Thing I Have Made. Lucero are ready for the upcoming (02-24-23) album Should’ve Learned by Now, releasing a final single before the album drops this Friday with “One More F.U.” on the weekly Top Ten on Wednesday February 22, 2023.
