Old Crow Medicine Show (from the album Union Made

Old Crow Medicine Show (from the album Union Made available on Hartland Records) (by Danny McCloskey)

This is an unverified claim, but I believe if someone turned the pages of a library encyclopedia to look up buskers, Old Crow Medicine Show would be smiling back at them. Moving from street corners to Ryman residency, traveling from being a buzz band to world-wide string band bangers, OCMS has consistently built a reputation on their music and charm. The recent release from the band, Union Made, takes the sound back to earlier recording, accenting the Roots with the power of studio amplification as they borrow a tune from Buffalo Springfield that needs to be heard in 2026 (“For What It’s Worth”). They welcome in Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours) to encourage modern-day action with “Revolution Now” as Molly Tuttle jumps in to support the final screen moments of the dance with “Last American Waltz’.

A toe-tapping bounce pushes opening track “Howdy Do America” as Old Crow Medicine Show are joined by Jesse Welles to wave hello and goodbye as the unending beauty of the USA passes underneath the wheels of the tour bus.
Hippie freaks and rednecks find a common ground in the music of OCMS when the band acknowledge the problems in the world, and suggest a cure in “Rye Whiskey”. Real-life roots pen the tale when Union Made welcomes Del McCoury, Molly Tutlle, and Ronnie McCoury for the holler-proud story in “My Side of the Mountain”. A Rock’n’Roll rumble propels history when Union Made tells the tale of “Lewis and Clark” as Old Crow Medicine Show pick up the pace to stir a “Rainbow Stew” and slow their steps for the marching beat that embraces one family/one world with “Beautiful Land”. They are joined by John Carter Cash and Ana Cristina Cash when OCMS add a border melody to encourage unity with “Y’all All Come”. (by Danny McCloskey)
