Ned Hill Band (from the E.P. Saw Jesus in the Park available as a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)

Whether it is a trip to the store, wandering through nature, or cruising highways, stepping outside our front door provides adventures. The Ned Hill Band experience that delight wandering through the grassy expanse of a local open meadow when the walk on the meandering groove of “Saw Jesus at the Park”, the title track for the Nashville-based band’s recent E.P. release. The origins for the recording dates back a few decades, Ned Hill sharing that ‘the reason this whole record got started is because I wanted to record this old song written 30 years ago’.

The track, “Little Miss Cairaco” was the catalyst for Saw Jesus at the Park; the soundtrack to the song is a jangly, Beatles-esque melody. The time stamping of “Little Miss Cairaco”, and other cuts on the E.P., is not dragging old arrangements into the studio. The Ned Hill Band remove the due date on the tracks, providing a fresh feel in the tone and textures of the music.

East Nashville hidden treasure, producer/guitarist Dave Coleman, is once again behind the board to guide Saw Jesus at the Park. An off-center drumbeat is the foundation for the contemporary questions of “Why in the World?” while a full-throttle attack propels the determined groove of “Drive”. Borrowing a tune from John Fogerty, Ned Hill Band give an urgency with the forward-thrust of the guitar jangle in the cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s tune “Hey Tonight”. The Ned Hill Band exit the Saw Jesus at the Park E.P. on a gentle sway as they bid “Goodbye to Everything”.  (by Danny McCloskey)
