Kaz Murphy (from the album Making Noise: Songs of Rebellion and Redemption available on Green Monkey Records) (by Danny McCloskey)
Kaz Murphy is a True Believer; the description in capital letters because the man deserves the attention. Whether in live performances, or with his recent release, Making Noise: Songs of Rebellion and Redemption, Kaz is both a fan of music and frontman delivering firebrand lessons on life. He champions his inspirations against the scratchy front porch jam that backs his story “Old Protest Records”. Using the song titles from his own past, Kaz Murphy threads the tale with those who were teachers as much as they were the men and women lighting torches to storm the barricades.

Opening Making Noise: Songs of Rebellion and Redemption, the first cut, “Making Noise”, spotlights a man on a mission. Many contemporaries play Folk music, the place where Kaz Murphy veers away from trends is by following in the footsteps of the masters who used Folk music to challenge beliefs and instigate action. The separation currently forcing division in an America that is already great, Making Noise voices “The Hope of a Man in a Bar” as a farmer tells his tale with “Rifle for a Hope” while an election is held for that man who wants to ‘get off of this couch’ that uses his gambling tendencies to cast his decisions with a “Vote for Broke”.

Solid strums take a road trip through “Iowa Ohio Arizona” as a funereal march walks across a “Bloody Hell” while guitar strings point their finger-picking digits at a “Bad Chief”. A jaunty bounce softens the accusatory tone of “Pacifist Buys Gun” as handclaps demand attention for Kaz Murphy when he exit Making Noise: Songs of Rebellion and Redemption shouting from his Folk musician pulpit with “Human Chain”.
