Before Punk Rock was big business, Punk musicians created the songs they heard in their heads set against the melodies that fit the music. Jobi Riccio takes her Punk songwriting back to origins for the genre; a time when how you felt and expressed yourself were the qualifiers to grant you access and membership. She offers judgments, observations, and cultural advice with sharp-edged electric guitar notes and a backbeat that will leave a mark when she delivers a weather report stoked with the flames of rage in “Wildfire Season”. Drunken sonics surround the opening of “Doesn’t Matter” before the tune hammers out a beat for a chorus the pounds in the message ‘go give ‘em hell, go make ‘em mad, go give it everything that you have’.
Her songs are gathered on her recent release, Face the Feeling. Pulling off the highway she rides, Jobi Riccio ‘sings you a Country song’ in the campfire strums of “Idaho”. She crosses “The Ridge” on equally rigid angles that form the track’s rhythmic framework. Jobi Riccio opens Face the Feeling on studied strums that hear her diary pages as “A Little at a Time” while distorted electric guitar sonics paint the confessional walls that border “Love of the Song”. A caffeinated groove propels the story in “Buzzkill” as Face the Feeling pens words for a postcard sent from “Pilar, NM”. Acoustic notes hush as they wrap around Jobi Riccio when she sings a snapshot of a moment in time with “High Beam” and lets the slow sway of rhythm match the song title for “Easy”.
