Any Blues fan that has dug into the Janiva Magness catalog during her three-decade plus career knows, she’s a formidable vocalist for fronting a band. However, sometimes it takes a live album to make you go from fan to super-fan. Her latest, Truth in the Room- The Clearmountain Sessions (Live) is that gateway release.
 
Live music is in the perfect environment in intimate performances, and Magness provided just that when she banged out ten songs to a small room. The result is powerfully packed, and the action starts with the solid bounce of “My Bad Luck Soul”, Janiva Magness sounding fine out of the gate, the band tight and in line behind her powerhouse vocals. 
Blues power chords kick off the slower burner “Make it Rain” while “You Were Never Mine” finds its sadness rating tripled in the live setting and “The Devil is an Angel Too” finds her connecting the dots between dirty Blues and low rent cocktail lounge chords. “Love Wins Again” is soulful R&B with a Motown vibe, and the album closer, “The Things Left Undone”, is a beefy ballad with Gospel leanings.
