Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 7/1/2026
Forty years on from their debut self-titled release in 1986, The Jayhawks top the chart this week with “Keeping Our Heads Above Water”, a tune from the band’s upcoming (08-28-26) album, Sanctuary Park. Elizabeth Cook is ready to release her upcoming (08-14-26) Shooter Jannings-produced recording, Great Television. She is joined by Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours) with “Razorwire Wall” while Ray Wylie Hubbard ponders whether the howl from the outside is a “Dog or Wolf” with a track from his upcoming (08-21-26) Reel 2 Reel 4 Real. Margo Price borrows a song from the Duct-Tape Messiah Blaze Foley, weighing in with a condemnation of power without principle in the single “Oval Room” as Matt Tarka speaks of “Beginnings” on new single. Billy Strings sifts through the ashes of love with “Burn the Other End”, a cut from his upcoming (08-28-26) highly anticipated release, So Much for Goodbye. VB Cain cranks up his Alt Country megaphone to welcome visitors into “Cain’s Country” as Janiva Magness lists three steps into the heart with “Slipped, Tripped, and Fell in Love” with a tune from her upcoming (08-07-26) live album, Truth in the Room: The Clearmountain Sessions while Sierra Hull joins Turnpike Troubadours to cover Robert Earl Keen and his song to make you smile, “Feelin’ Good Again”. Blues innovator Peter Parcek returns with an upcoming (08-14-26) album, Most of the Time, and closes out the chart this week singing of a bad case of being “Twistified”, on the Top Ten for Wednesday July 1, 2026
