Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 12/18/24
The year moves too quickly through the months to get an idea of where you are standing on the spinning cycle, however, as the last days of December approach, the season for celebrations makes itself known with bright lights, shiny objects, and holiday music. Fantastic Cat begins the song list for our last Top Ten of 2024 with their single “Holiday Road” as they encourage everyone to climb on board and kick off the festivities. The Texas Trio matches the time of year to their Southwest homeland with “Western Wonderland” while Hackensaw Boys get philosophical with their single “The Child I Once Was”. Ever More Nest had high hopes however discovers she is “Back in the Doghouse for Christmas” as Bad Temper Joe keeps the white lines as a guide when he delivers a Christmas edition of his tune “When the Highway’s Done Its Run”. Jackson Hollow weave some Bluegrass into their cover of Brenda Lee’s “Papa Noel” as Olle Owens delivers the “Kris Kringle Jingle” and Adam Chaffins shouts the praises of “Layaway Momma”. From their recently released holiday EP, Jagged Vacance, The Pinkerton Raid sail on a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River”. Closing out the chart, and the year, Fantastic Cat return to the list, joined by members of NYC’s Queens-based Mariachi Corazon De Mexico, take us out on a bounce with a version of “Feliz Navidad” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday December 18, 2024.
