The Top Ten is taking small steps into the undertow of the holiday season when The Hackensaw Boys envision a beautifully poetic reverie that tackles tough subjects. They decorate “The Child I Once Was” with joyful memories as they pass the holiday torch to another generation, and the new traditions they bring to the world, facing acceptance and resistance with the line ‘I’m in my own way that is why I can’t see”. Henry Coward (T-Bone Burnett) and Howard Coward (Elvis Costello reunite for an Audible original script, The True Story of The Coward Brothers, written by Elvis Costello and directed by Christopher Guest. And for our chart, they offer a track from their recent self-titled release, warning of “The Devil’s Wife”. Canadian Blues Rocker Ollee Ownes belts out the title track to her Nowhere to Hiderelease, Max McNown scribes introspection into a new single with “Better Me for You (Brown Eyes)”, Navy veteran Kashus Culpepper Soul shouts therapy in “Out of My Mind”, and sisters in song, Jeán et Joie from Mountain Home, Arkansas, offer the single “MA”. Lucero members Ben Nichols and Rick Steff revisit songs from the Memphis band’s catalog with the single “That Much Further West” from the upcoming (01-24-25) Lucero Unplugged as harmonic duo The Magnolia Janes re-work The Doors in “People Are Strange”, and LA’s Cave Flowers sing of “Good Love” with a tune from their upcoming (01-25-25) release Western Spectre. Soulman JSCToken, along with CaribSoul, updates 70’s sounds as he bares his vulnerability for what he wants in “Love is Knocking” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday December 4, 2024.
