The Alt Root Top Ten For November 25, 2020
Picture
Among the many hits to the heart that occurred in 2020, the month of August held a tragic loss for the music community with the death of Justin Townes Earle. His dad tributes the musician when Steve Earle and the Dukes release, J.T. on January 4, 2021, the date that would have been his son’s 39th birthday. Crowning the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday, November 25, 2020 is “Harlem River Blues” from J.T.sitting alongside a track from Langhorne Slim, “Mighty Soul”, from his upcoming (01-29-21) release, Strawberry Mansion, an album the centers on the hope and healing found through a worldwide human connection. A.J. Croce nods to music that has moved him as he sits behind the piano bench for Billy Preston’s “Nothing from Nothing” found on his upcoming (02-05-21) release By Request. Guitar/harp duo, Harp & Plow, offer a new single with the mirror-image “Harp and Plow” as veteran Bluesman John Mayall backs himself on Hammond organ for the single “I’m as Good as Gone” (written by Bobby Rush), celebrating his 87th birthday and joined at the party by Buddy Miller and his guitar. Glasgow, Scotland’s The Black Denims have a new single. “Temporary Pain”, on the chart alongside Memphis Rock’nSoul man John Nemeth with “Deprivin’ a Love”, Jade Marie Patek and her new single, “Dancin’ with the Devil”, and James Houlahan claiming “Tomorrow’s Had Enough of Me”. Gender fluid Ryder Cooley, lead vocalist of NYC dark carnival band, Dust Bowl Faeries, offers “Candy Store”, inspired by a traditional Yiddish Folk song, on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
