While making Spirits, the upcoming (02-28-25) release from The Devil Makes Three, frontman and main songwriter, Pete Barnhard, experienced loss when his brother, mother, and closest friend from childhood passed during the recording of the album. Of their first release in seven years, Pete feels that ‘there’s a theme of ghosts and death running through this album. The world’s in a strange place right now. A lot of the songs on this record come from that place—trying to make sense of it all, whether it’s dealing with loss, addiction, or the way people are more divided than ever. But at the end of the day, this band has always been about celebrating resilience. We’ve always found a way to push through, and wanted to reflect that in this album’. The Devil Makes Three lands in the #1 spot with the title track with “Spirits” as the pride of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Them Coulee Boys, deliver “I Am Not Sad” from their upcoming (02-28-24) release, No Fun in the Chrysalis while from the Hi Desert neighborhood of Flamingo Heights, California songman Brad Byrd covers The Church with the single “Under the Milky Way”. A trip to beat the European cold took Les Hay Babies to Louisiana where they soaked up a culture that shared their Acadian heritage and a joy for its sounds. Les Hay Babies make the chart with “Miroir” while Jeff Crosby measures the distance between “Memory and A Dream” and Joanne Shaw Taylor asks “Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?” on her latest single. With a tune from his upcoming (11-22-24) release, The Silver Key, singer/songwriter JJ Slater takes “One More Ride” as Restos prepare to “Leave This City” and Lucinda Williams offers “Something” from her upcoming (12-06-24) Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles from Abbey Road. The Brothers Comatose help us exit the album urging “Run Boy Run” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday November 3, 2024.
