Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 10/23/24
On his new release, JP Harris offers complete disclosure with the album title, JP Harris is a Trash Fire. It’s a flame that will burn bright at the top of this week’s chart as JP Harris spins the tale of “Old Fox” from the #1 position for the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday October 23, 2024. Nefesh Mountain are joined by Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas as the duo put out a call for unity on their new single, “Better Angels”, the song celebrating the ideal that ‘we’re only strangers who’ve yet to become friends’. The cut can be found on the upcoming (01-31-25) album from Nefesh Mountain, Beacons. The Infamous Stringdusters count up to number three for the covers record series with the upcoming (11-13-24) Undercover, Vol.3, making the list this week as they band offers a stringband version of an electronic music classic. Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”, while Lilly Hiatt declares “Shouldn’t Be” from her upcoming (01-31-25) album, Forever, (her first release in four years). Somewhere between Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the NYC underground train rumble beat sits Vienna Carroll and The Folk, offering a mighty bounce towards salvation with their version of “This Train is Bound for Glory” as Dwight Yoakam sings of his “Wide Open Heart” from the upcoming (11-15-24) Brighter Daysand Sam Morrow is joined by JD Simo as they pack Blues, Country, and Soul into their single “Pack It Up”. Los Angeles-based Cave Flowers have an upcoming (01-25-25) release, Western Spectre, and make this week’s list mixing up “Garbage and Gold” as Skinny Dyck (Alberta, Canada’s Ryan Dyck) admits he may be getting a little “Out of Control” with a track from his upcoming (10-28-24) release, Easygoing. Presenting their band as the fictional tale of a musical duo circa 1900, Sons of Town Hall guide the mythical adventures of Josiah Chester Jones and George Ulysses Brown in “Wild Winds”. The song is from the upcoming (due 2025) album, and is featured on the pair’s podcast of the same name, Madmen Cross the Water, in the episode ‘How to Build a Boat’ and closes out the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday October 23, 2024.
