The Alt Root Top Ten For September 22, 2021
Picture
In lieu of fame/fortune/etc., a life in music is about the stories you can tell. Jesse Dayton has a satchel full of tales of a life lived among artists such as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, X, and Social Distortion. Arriving on November 9, 2021, Beaumonster gathers the stories in book form for release with a companion album of the same name arriving a few days earlier (11-05-21). In preparation for the releases, Jesse Dayton lands in the #1 spot on a cover of X with “Burning House of Love”. Continuing with 80’s band covers, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are joined by John Paul White for “Driver 8”. The R.E.M. cover appears on The 400 Unit’s cover album, Georgia Blue (due 10-15-21-digitally, 11-25-21-physical). The compilation is a benefit for various Georgia non-profits and will feature cuts of other artists from the state.  Nashville-based songwriter Phillip Michael Scales makes use of Blues bloodlines when he is joined by Archie Lee Hooker on “When They Put Me in My Grave” on a track from his upcoming (10-29-21) release Sinner Songwriter. Originally discovered by Guy Clark in 1993, Noel McKay returns with a new album (10-08-21) Blue, Blue, Blue and make the chart listing the “50 Loneliest Places in the Nation”. Putting aside bands and solo careers, The Whitmore Sisters debut their duo with Ghost Stories (due 1-21-22) as Bonnie and Eleanor (The Masterson, Steve Earle & The Dukes) Whitmore offer “Learn to Fly” for the list. Good Morning Bedlam have a new single with “Blessed Boy”, Thomas Stajcer sends out a song for “Midwestern States”, the title track from his recent release, The New Cobras revisits 60’s Pop with “Soul Groove 66, Pt. 1” and Jeremy Pinnell holds out “Red Rose” from his Goodbye L.A. release. Setting the stage for his recent release Tommy Castro Presents A Bluesman Came to Town, Tommy closes out our list with “Draw the Line” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday September 22, 2021.
