The Alt Root Top Ten For September 16, 2020
Picture

We had to do some reconstruction for the #1 spot on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday, September 16, 2020 to accommodate the musical force of Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band along with special guests. Dom Flemons (solo, Carolina Chocolate Drops) joins with the Rev. for a version of Elmore James’ “Shake Your Money Maker”, adding the guitar work of Steve Cropper (Booker T & The MG’s, The Blues Brothers). Fiddler, banjo man, studio owner (Cypress Recording Studios), producer and sideman (Rhiannon Giddens, Eric Clapton, Tim O’Brien, Loretta Lynn, Irma Thomas), Dirk Powell has a new album (When I Wait for You), and is on the list dealing out “Jack of Hearts”. High Fidelity offer the title track to their recent release, Banjo Player’s Blues, joining John Fullbright who has a track from the Back to Paradise sessions, covering fellow Okie piano man Leon Russell with “If the Shoe Fits”. Jack Ingram pens a tune for the moment with the single “Times Like These” alongside the new single from Lucero, “Time to Go Home”. An upcoming (10-09-20) album from Bahamas shows the songman offering self-awareness with the Sad Hunk title as he searches for a DIY guide in “Trick to Happy”. Raveis Kole offer their version of John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery”, Irish quartet Screaming Orphans sing of “Mary from Dungloe”, and Granville Automatic tune in “Tiny Televisions” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
