Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 9/11/24
A lot of movement in the beginnings of the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday September 11, 2024. Kicking things of with the title track to their upcoming (09-13-24) album (and 2024/2025 tour), Reckless Kelly land in the #1 spot with “The Last Frontier” featuring Kelly Willis. The forward motion keeps on chugging when Dan and Claudia Zanes, along with Steve Earle, board “Tomorrow’s Train” from the recently released Pieces of Home. Last-night Soul noir comes alive when Whitney Monge’ asks “What Would Love Do Now” as David Luning offers “Lessons”, the title track to his recent release. Yonder Mountain String Band are ready to release album number eleven with Nowhere Next (due 11-08-24), making this week’s chart with “Here I Go” as The Velvet West deliver a Southwest shuffle for “A Deal on the Rio Grande”. Michelle Malone, joined by Will Kimbrough, has “Barbed Wire Kisses”, an advance listen to her upcoming (10-04-24) release, Southern Comfort while Crys Matthews spells out “The Difference Between”, a single that Crys points out is ‘a reclamation not just of the space Black artists have been denied in Country and Americana music, not just of the space LGBTQ people have been denied in communities of faith, not just of the autonomy women have been denied over our own bodies, but a reclamation of the South that raised me’. Jay Sprouse sings his personal journey in the single “Innocent Harmony (Take Me Away)” as The Heavy Heavy close out the list with “Feel” from their album One of a Kind, on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday September 11, 2024.
