Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 01/22/2025

Picture
A love of fast-food wrote the lyrics for Lilly Hiatt as she lands in the peak position with “Kwik-E-Mart” from her upcoming (01-31-25) release, Forever, for the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday January 15, 2024. Of the song, Lilly shared her thoughts that ‘being a troubadour, you spend a lot of time snacking out of gas stations. My husband and I also love to go to shows then get little treats at the corner store. Some of our sweetest moments have happened at those spots’.  Sunny War is joined by Valerie June on her single “Cry Baby”, found on her upcoming (02-21-25) release Armageddon in a Summer Dress as Salt Lake City-based Talia Keys plays all the instruments on her single “Need You to Care”. Since forming in 1971, The Seldom Scene have spent 53-years making the world safe for String Bands as they return with a new album (03-14-25), Remains to the Scene, making our chart with “Last of the Steam-Powered Trains” while Them Coulee Boys get “Up Close” with a cut from their upcoming (02-28-25) album, No Fun in the Chrysalis. I’m With Her (Aoife O’Donovan, Sara Jarosz, Sara Watkins) are feeling the effects of “Expresso” when they cover Sabrina Carpenter on a single that benefits BeLoved Asheville, an organization helping local residents through the after-effects of Hurricane Helene. The RW Smith has a new single, “When My Train Comes”, and Jason Isbell shows his love for our world in “Bury Me” from his upcoming (03-07-25) solo outing, Foxes in the Snow. Boston, Mass-based songwriter Connor Bettencourt promises “The Wounds Will Mend” while Nefesh Mountain are joined by Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush to introduce the “Man of Manzanita” from their upcoming (01-31-25) Beacons, and to close out the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday January 22, 2024.
