The Naked Sun

The Naked Sun (from the album War with Shadows)
The jangle of Indie Rock is sprinkled on the Folk Rock of The Naked Sun as the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based band offer their debut full length album, War with Shadows, after the release of two successful E.P.’s. (Space, Place, and Time (2013), Pickled Hearts (2015)). A caffeinated beat guides the melody as an equally steady stream ‘pisses your name in the sand’ for “Jellyfish” while easy waves of Country-tinged rhythms slowly define the steps of “Snail Mail” and The Naked Sun color in “Purple Sunset” with a myriad of fluttering notes and sharp chord angles.
Recorded in July of 2017 at Miner Street Studios in Fishtown, Pennsylvania with producer Brian McTear (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, matt pond PA), War with Shadows balances and benefits from the bright Folk Rock soundscape mixing with Indie song structures, creating dreamy moods slam dancing to the optimistic heartbeat punch of Rock’n’Roll. The Naked Sun carve out the tale in “Holdin’ Back the Heart” with guitar slashes, haul their instruments out to the barn for the Honky Tonk Country ramble in “Burke Hollow”, and high-step with winding jabs of notes and chords in the title track as War with Shadows holds out its hand asking “Do You Wanna Dance” on an anxious groove.
