![]() Willie Nile (from the album New York at Night available on River House Records) Maybe not today, or tomorrow. Next week and month are also out BUT Willie Nile makes a promise on his opening track shouting “New York is Rockin’”, namechecking NYC clubs and venues, remembering what was as his words remind of what will be. The cut is found on New York at Night, the latest release from the mayor of the Lower East Side, Willie Nile. While brother Willie rules the streets New York at Night proves the Rock’n’Roll is still king. The beat never lets up chasing Willie Nile across “Run Free” while guitar chords strike a welcome for “The Fool Who Drank the Ocean” as a tangle of guitar strings slash and burn to demand “Surrender the Moon”. The rhythm is a powerful beast on New York at Night yet Willie Nile opens the doors to his Rock’n’Roll heart to show it beats just as strong on ballads. Lo, a rumble rises up from the earth when Willie Nile shakes and rattles the rhythms underneath “Doors of Paradise” while he tenderly recalls a magic moment on a piano reverie for “Last Time We Made Love” and becomes the loving dad singing a safe haven in “Under This Roof”. Cadillac Jack and Saddlebag Sally are searchers who surrender to the seductive groove of “The Backstreet Slide” while Willie Nile hammers out hello for “Downtown Girl” and opens his Rock’n’Roll arms wide to embrace his city in the title track as New York at Night offers advice to set you free in “A Little Bit of Love”.
