Will Overman (from the album The Winemaker’s Daughter available as a self-release)
Smooth vocals take the bite away from a raw realism buried in the words of Will Overman. His latest release, The Winemaker’s Daughter, soundshifts genres as Will Overman digs deep into the emotions that come and go with love. Born on the east coast Will Overman packed his dreams, heading towards the sunset and getting tested on the west coast. The collection of songs on the album have traveled with the artist for the past five years, spanning time between college and today. Will Overman shares that ‘The Winemaker’s Daughter was born out of different periods of my life both physically and emotionally... it’s extremely chronological and about as close to a concept album as one can get without calling it as much’. At twenty-six years old, Will Overman looks over his past from a homebase of Charlottesville, Virginia, the stories on The Winemaker’s Daughter showing a maturity of mind beyond the calendar years logged by its author. The title track sings/speaks commitment over a regimented string band musical backing as The Winemaker’s Daughter strolls down “Marine Street” promising brighter days, trudges along behind a percussive thump telling an LA story for “Miss California”, and sheds concrete sidewalks to hop aboard “Traveler’s Promise”. Will Overman offers a sweet tone that grants his words the feel of a daydream as he wistfully thinks of his lover in “Something to Hold”, waking up to the wonder of love with “Little Things” and swearing that if money could be made as two hearts share a life he could earn a “Living Wage”.
