TK & The Holy Know-Nothings (from the album The Incredible Heat Machine available on Mama Bird Recording Company) (by Bryant Liggett)
With hints of twang and subtle nods to Garage Rock, TK & the Holy Know-Nothings remain a Rock’n’Roll band that’s unafraid to dabble in Country Blues and CowPunk. Their latest in The Incredible Heat Machine, like their past releases, continues the delivery of a hip, yet not hipster, blend of party Rock that will appease the whiskey and cheap beer crowd, or any audience with ears open enough to dig into a fun soundtrack that sometimes dabbles in sad. Acoustic picking kicks off “Frankenstein”, a short Country Blues riff that segues into fifteen seconds of Reggae and retro wah-wah before morphing into a carefree stroller. The Holy Know-Nothings put frivolous on the back-burner cuts like “I Don’t Need Anybody” and “She Wonders”, two tracks hearty, heavy, and high on loneliness, but they do the good-time stuff best. The band offer for the title track as a ‘Preprise”, the melody an airy and ambient intro for the title track, a cut that kicks off with Southern Rock riffs before charging into a stomping rocker. “I Lost My Beer” is a somber, funny, crying in your beer ballad that’s followed by the bouncy, singalong drinking cut “Bottom of the Bottle”. The Holy Know-Nothings are great players backing a great writer and front man in TK. With The Incredible Heat Machine you can rev up your party with Roots boogie then kick everyone out with a get-out-of-my-house downer, and you can do it all with this record!
