![]() The Goat Roper Rodeo Band (from the album Tall Grass available on Old Pup Records) Cosmic love is a two-way street for The Goat Roper Rodeo Band as the Rhuddlan, Wales trio give back what they get from the music on their recent release, Tall Grass. The Country the songs reference on Tall Grass lives in the small town bounce when The Goat Roper Rodeo Band walk through a dream down “Main St” as they take “The Pulse” on gently rounded rhythms and harmonies, slowly peel the molasses-thick melodies from “Toss and Turn”, and admit “I Can’t Fly” on it-and-out breaths of a beat. Produced by Romeo Stoddart (The Magic Numbers), Tall Grass opens on dry desert strums as haunted harmonies are carried on a wandering Tex Mex melody with first cut “Unwrap My Bones”. The Goat Roper Rodeo Band unpack a satchel full of roughly three-minute blasts of sonic joy. “Don’t Mind the Rain” becomes a mantra as the melody in the song melts like water running down a window while “Keep On” shuffles its feet and “High Heel Blues” turns fashion mag pages with a rockabilly rhythm. Country Blues beckons like a neon sign on Tall Grass, The Goat Roper Rodeo Band barreling through the tunes like they are busking for their lives. The trio trudge through “Bright Lights and Deadbeats” passing a call-and-response conversation back and forth as The Goat Roper Rodeo Band chase a “Desert Flower” and Tall Grass bumps and thumps into the promise of a horizontal bop in “Ask for Alice”.
