![]() Motel Mirrors (from the album In the Meantime available on Last Chance Records) The walls can talk about what they hear, though if you want to get a clear picture of the characters checking in and out, the full story is told in the reflections of Motel Mirrors. Two-parts Austin and two-parts Memphis, Motel Mirrors pairs Lone Star State musicians Amy LaVere (vocals/bass) and Will Sexton (guitar/vocals) with Tennessee players John Paul Keith (guitar/vocals), and Shawn Zorn (drums). The history and influences of the two music meccas can be heard moving through In the Meantime, the recent release from Motel Mirrors. Everly Brothers harmony return as a memory asking “Do You Remember When You Gave a Damn”, a Country shuffle steers lovers towards an embrace with “Let Me Be Sweet to You”, a thick rockabilly beat declares “I Wouldn’t Dream of It”, and a slick rock’n’roll riff wriggles through “Do with Me What You Want”. Folk, Swing, Soul, and Country come together in the notes and chords of Motel Mirrors, In the Meantime warding off the chill with a shot of Tequila in “Dead of Winter Blues”, rising up with a percussive rattle for “Loving in the Morning”, tinting “Blue on Blue” with a moody melody, and surrounding the soft whispers of the title track with a solid structure of determined rhythms. Formed in 2013, original members John Paul Keith and Amy LaVere checked a third voice in to Motel Mirrors with the addition of Will Sexton, the guitarist bringing his own suitcase full of songwriting skills to the group. Vintage beats rumble underneath “Paper Doll” as Motel Mirrors count to four as they checkmark “Things I Learned” with sharp-edged strums.
