![]() Jim Lauderdale (from the album From Another World available on Yep Roc Records) Catch a glimpse of Jim Lauderdale in one of his embroidered suits and it is obvious Jim and Country music are a natural fit, yet put a tuxedo on the man he is ready for the stage in an old school Vegas Strip Casino. From Another World is Jim Lauderdale’s latest release, the album a pleasant dose of pedal-steel laden fringe Country dosed with psychedelic leanings that also showcase his ability to become a classic crooner. Vocally Jim Lauderdale lays it down smooth as butter, a polished voice that captures your heartache. “Some Horses Run Free” kicks the album off with a subtle charge with “When You Can’t Have What Your Heart Wants” and “The Secrets of the Pyramids” following in the same tempo with beautiful touches of piano and ambient steel guitar. “Listen” is Jim Lauderdale’s sing-it-in-a-song way to tell a psychobabble spewing friend to shut up. It is a dreamy cut, Jim Lauderdale explaining ‘you think you know everything, but you don’t know lots of things’ before politely recommending ‘listen, try not to talk for a while, listen, even though that’s really not your style’. “I’ll Forgive You If You Don’t” with its wandering piano has a Charlie Rich feel with fantastic harmonies added to the From Another World version while “Are You Trying to Make a Song Out of Us” finds Jim Lauderdale in funky Southern Rock territory.
