![]() Israel Nash (from the album Topaz available on Desert Folklore Music) Israel Nash is the space captain on Topaz, his recent E.P. release. The album hosts lots of breathing room for its melodies, the music flowing in a constant current, cresting and falling, never losing the beat while the possibilities in the sound feel limitless. Stories that stretch and grow, a freckling of notes beginning “Closer” as a regimented rhythm supporting the mystical desert tale. Israel Nash tries to make sense of “Dividing Lines” as the musical backing of the track cascades and swells, a harmonica grounding the slowly trudging groove winding across “Canyonheart”. While the music creates a sonic blanket that wraps and embraces the soundwaves, the tales of Topazfocus on relationships, particularly the current air of divisiveness, Israel Nash stating that ‘these tunes are about the unfortunate divisions we have between others - friends, lovers, strangers, ideas, politics...the distances between. So during this crazy time, may we see that we are always our best as one. It doesn’t take a guru to reveal how connected we really are in this world!! Recognize that we share much more in common than we do in what separates us’. A sturdy rhythm provides the groove underneath the moody funk of “Down in the Country” as Israel Nash puts the beat upfront for “Southern Coasts”, circulating the musical tones of the tune like wandering memories.
