![]() Hot Buttered Rum (from the album Lonesome Panoramic available on ) Stretching north from San Francisco, California, the Panoramic Highway hugs the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean through Marin County. West coast Bluegrass band Hot Buttered Rum left their San Francisco homebase, heading across the Golden Gate Bridge to Stinson Beach, CA, setting up in Panoramic House Studios to record their latest release, Lonesome Panoramic. Main songwriters Nat Keefe (guitar) and Erik Yates (banjo, guitars) take turns with the lead vocals for the band, the recording of Lonesome Panoramic particularly good fit for Erik who felt that ‘making music on the Panoramic Highway carried a lot with it for me. It's one of the roads I grew up driving, towards the ocean, the mountain, the woods, and, eventually, back home again. I hope some of these tunes can do the same for the listener’. Rounding out the line-up for the five-piece string band are Bryan Horne (upright bass), Zebulon Bowles (fiddle, harmony vocal), and James Stafford (drums, percussion, mandolin). Hometown plays strong in the songs as Hot Buttered Rum take a Bay Bridge exit for “Treasure Island Blues”, find a California girl in the heart of Texas with “Leaving Dallas”, and dive into “Deep End” along with musical accompaniment by Bay Area band ALO. Other NoCal groups are on board for Lonesome Panoramic with Folk trio Rainbow Girls joining in for the ethereal daydream melodies of “The Spirits Still Come” and The Coffis Brothers lending harmony on “Country Tunes & Love Songs”. With studio windows that overlooked The Pacific, the inspiration from the breaking waves suiting the songs of Hot Buttered Rum and the inherent west coast environment that courses through the stories. Tender notes match the equally loving advice for “How Short the Song” as Lonesome Panoramic rattle a rhythm to wake “Sleeping Giants” and double-time the beat to share secrets in “You Can Tell” while Hot Buttered Rum match a hurried rhythm to the fast-paced family life that rushes through “Never Got Married”, and make a heart pitch to entice and warn in “The One Everybody Knows”.
