![]() Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers (from the album Praise available as a self-release) Album number two for Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers, Praise, continues to brand the sound of duo Kevin Sciou (Frenchie) on guitar and Brother Pete on drums. In 2003, Brother Pete encouraged his partner in the backing band for Jack Ingram to take center stage. For many years, Frenchie and his guitar existed solely as backing players and sideman. Kevin Sciou landed in Los Angeles California with just a backpack, having pawned his Gibson to buy the plane ticket that would take him from his home in Nimes, France. Within two months, his sideman duties had him backing Shooter Jennings in his band Starrgunn. A gig with Wade Bowen brought Kevin Sciou to Texas, where he stayed, backing Jack Ingram (who dubbed him with the moniker Frenchie) before setting up with Brother Pete as Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers. Praise shares it songs space in equal measure with honky tonk sways (“Find Another Fool”, Southern Soul (“I Never Meant to Hurt You”), jangly Blue Rock’n’Roll (“I Long to Come Home”), scratchy front porch Folk (“Sweet Remedy”), and busking Blues (“Blue Eyes Can Do You No Wrong”). The title track spits out wobbly guitar notes that flicker on the dreamlike “Praise” while Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers own there band name cred, pounding through “Take a Stand for Yourself” with an electric sizzle, crawling over a swamp groove for “Black Cat Moan”, and chicken-picking notes to scatter on the Country Blues stomp of “Greta”.
