Dedicated Men of Zion (from the album The Devil Don’t Like It available on Bible & Tire Recording Co.)
Entering their latest release, The Devil Don’t Like It, on a gnarly bass notes supplemented with guitar chord chops and madly rolling organ riffs, Dedicated Men of Zion make prayer into a party with opening cut, “Lord Take My Hand”. The gospels of Dedicated Men of Zion are mighty grooves. The Devil Don’t Like It is the sound of human souls shouting out cries to heaven with the power of Soul music. The rhythm sways when The Devil Don’t Like It quiets, asking the angels to “Rock My Soul”, changing to high-stepping all the way to hereafter with “God Got His Eye on You” and “One River to Cross” as the Dedicated Men of Zion offer confessions over a slow cooking groove for the title track. The Daniels family combine their voices for the Dedicated Men of Zion, two generations united by both blood and marriage, making a home for their brand of Rock’n’Roll gospel in North Carolina. The Devil Don’t Like It is the second release from the band, and stays the course with the group’s glorious mix of funky passion, potent rhythms, and heart-stopping harmonies. The sound simmers underneath the soul-baring story of “I’m a Soldier in God’s Army” while the Dedicated Men of Zion stomp and strut along their journey, proclaiming “I’m Going Home”, give praise in “Up Above My Head”, and caffeinate the groove for “A Change is Gonna Come”.
