![]() Carla Olson and Todd Wolfe (from the album The Hidden Hills Sessions available on Red Parlor Records) The sound of California Country is a crossroads where dry, desert winds and ocean breezes meet. To corral the sound and capture the tracks on their recent duo release, The Hidden Hills Sessions, Carla Olson and Todd Wolfe continued the easy vibe of west coast music with studio time at Rancho Relaxo in Hidden Hill, CA. Carla Olson and Todd Wolfe bring co-writes to The Hidden Hills Sessions, setting the engine for Country Rock in “Sideshow”, scratching the itchy beat in “Light of Day”, and strutting with a rock’n’roll rattle with “All I Want is You” on shared lead vocals. A long lineage of freely mixing Country with Rock’n’Roll trails behind the pair, Carla Olson fronting The Textones before partnering with Gene Clark (The Byrds, solo) while Todd Wolfe lent guitar work to projects with Sheryl Crow and Stevie Nicks. The Hidden Hills Sessionsruns a Roots Music/Americana gamut, ranging from loose ragtag Folk (“Gave It All I Got”), Country Soul (“One Lost Love”) and desert Blues (“Blue”) as it percolates on acoustic grooves (“Burn for You”), and wanders with wistful strums (“On a Misty Morning”). Carla Olson and Todd Wolfe mirror the original feel of The Rolling Stones with their version of “Wild Horses” while they dose Blind Faith with west coast Americana in their take on “Can’t Find My Way Home”. Todd Wolfe is an artist new to me, but I've been a huge fan of Carla Olson dating back to the Textones, through her collaborations with Gene Clark, Mick Taylor and John York, and her solo projects. She's wonderful as a performer on stage and as a person off stage.
