![]() AJ Ghent {j-ent} (from the E.P. The Neo Blues Project) Three generations of family heritage are influences for AJ Ghent {j-ent}, his uncle Willie Eason creator of the Sacred Steel Tradition, and his grandfather, Henry Nelson, founder of the Sacred Steel rhythmic guitar style. The former frontman for Colonel Bruce Hampton’s band, AJ Ghent claims outside influences of funk from James Brown and Prince as a counterpart to his own sound and style on his recently released E.P., The Neo Blues Project. The sound of Neo Blues is a fusion, the E.P. putting street beats underneath the Soul sound of “Mercy”, hosting the trippy patter jam of “Wash Ya Hair!”, and the rock’n’roll romp propelled by handclap beats of “Gonna Rock” as AJ Ghent makes a plan to ‘shake, shake, shake that misty Blues’. The Florida native began a career in West Palm Beach with his sister Tiffany, relocating to Atlanta, Georgia is solidify a career. AJ Ghent is joined by his wife MarLa Ghent on a track written by his father, Aubrey Ghent, Sr with “Long Lost Friend. Immediately ushering listeners onto the dance floor with the album’s opening cut, AJ Ghent encourages to fall in line and “Do The Rump!” as The Neo Blues Project stays true to old school Blues Rock for the force of “Power”.
