When contemporary history began its third millennium on January 1, 2001, the Americana Music Association already had a soundtrack in place with two years of AmericanaFest in existence. With its 2017 conference and festival, AmericanaFestcelebrates year number eighteen. The event is a bridge between the success of Americana and Roots music of the past year and the future promises held in up-and-coming artists in the genre. The options are unlimited and the ability to see and hear all the music is impossible. The closest we can get to listing must-see shows is to put the music that is the soundtrack to our lives in a loosely based alphabetical order with the artists: A.J. Croce, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Amanda Shires, Amelia White & the Blue Souvenirs, Blind Boys of Alabama, Bonnie Bishop, Boo Ray, Buddy Miller, Carter Sampson, David Luning, Deer Tick, Don Bryant, Don Gallardo, Drive-By Truckers, Elizabeth Cook, Hayes Carll, Hiss Golden Messenger, Kasey Chambers, Korby Lenker, Lillie Mae, Lilly Hiatt, Low Cut Connie, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Mark Erelli, Mipso, North Mississippi Allstars, Otis Gibbs, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Reckless Kelly, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Steelism, SUSTO, The Band of Heathens, The Cactus Blossoms, The Dead South, The Deslondes, The Lumineers, The Secret Sisters, Tony Joe White, Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Shivers, Whitney Rose, Wild Ponies, Wynonna and the Big Noise, and Yola Carter.
Before the Tuesday 9-12-17 kickofff festivities began, AmericanaFest launched on a roar at The Family Wash with a benefit for Dan Baird on Monday, September 12. The band brought in the help of friends as Elizabeth Cook, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and others shared their set. Homemade Sin guitarist, Warner Hodges, was joined by former bandmate Jason Ringenberg for a mini-reunion of their barnstorming band, Jason and the Scorchers.
