11/8/2025 You Got Gold – A Celebration of John PrineYou Got Gold – A Celebration of John Prine (available from Abramorama and Oh Boy Pictures) (by Danny McCloskey)
Organized by Fiona Prine, You Got Gold – A Celebration of John Prine was a memorial concert to celebrate her late husband, John Prine, who passed away from COVID in April 2020. The inaugural event brought together artists including Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves, Tyler Childers, The War and Treaty, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Bonnie Raitt, Dwight Yoakam, Jason Isbell, Kurt Vile, Lyle Lovett, Allison Russell & JT Nero, Valerie June, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Milk Carton Kids, Swamp Dogg, I’m With Her, and Bob Weir to recall the joy of John Prine to the Ryman Auditorium to remember him in song. You Got Gold – A Celebration of John Prine was created by Oh Boy Pictures in partnership with Radical Media who documented the initial concert in October 2022. Of the event, Fiona Prine stated that ‘when John passed, we couldn't mourn together in the way we and his community needed to. This film documents that long-awaited moment when we finally came together at the Ryman—John's favorite stage—to honor him with his songs, music, stories and love. I'm grateful to everyone who shared their talent and their hearts to celebrate John's legacy, and I'm thrilled that audiences everywhere will now have the chance to experience this special night’. Interspersed with archival footage of John Prine, the film features testimonials from fans and friends. The best way to show their love, however, was to celebrate John Prine in song. Brandi Carlile was joined by Lucius for “I Remember Everything”, Valerie June and Nathaniel Rateliff partnered with “In Spite of Ourselves”, Tyler Childers delivered “Yes, I Guess They Oughta Name a Drink After You”, as Gillian Welch and David Rawlings joined at the microphone for “Hello in There”. Bringing back her John Prine written hit, Bonnie Raitt, along with Brandi Carlile, offered “Angel from Montgomery” while Jason Isbell sang of “Souvenirs”. The War and Treaty, Steve Earle, Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), Lucinda Williams, Milk Carton Kids, Kurt Vile, I’m With Her, and Swamp Dogg added to the event in song. Dwight Yoakam sang “Spanish Pipedream” before being joined on stage by John’s son, Tommy Prine, to close out the evening with “Paradise”. Abramorama Films will release You Got Gold – A Celebration of John Prine in theaters beginning with a week-long engagement at the QUAD in NYC on November 28, 2025, followed by bookings across North America and in select North American territories.
