Utilizing full disclosure immediately on their recent release, Yarn appropriately title the new offering Live Yarn, Vol. 1. The recording collects tracks from studio albums that date back to 2007. Beginning the song cycle with a question, Yarn asks ‘who loves you, who hates you’ with “Love/Hate” from 2016’s This is the Year release. The title track for that album kicks off as a chorus of guitar chords when Yarn claim “This is Our Year”, providing resolutions on the sonic symphony delivered by the music. The seven tunes that made the cut for Vol. 1, much like the bulk of Yarn’s catalog, come courtesy of Yarn founder/frontman, Blake Christiana. For close to two decades Blake has churned out stories that mirror his own life as the images created for his characters stare back at listeners to show their own reflections. Admitting that ‘and all my life, I’ve been waiting on a train to make my name’, Yarn board “New York City Bound” (from 2010’s Come on In) with hopes and dreams as the band bring back “Heart So Hard”, a track from last year’s release, Born Blessed Grateful & Alive. Following the 2024 album, Blake Christiana regrouped with the Yarn’s original rhythm section and took to touring. Live Yarn, Vol. 1 was recorded at Rooster Walk Music Festival in Axton, Virginia, and welcomes many of the band’s past collaborators such as Josh Shilling (Wynonna Judd/Mountain Heart), Joel Timmons, Russell Clarke, and Ward Buckheister (Sol Driven Train) as well as Isaac Hadden and Caitlin Krisko. Proving themselves the gatekeepers of Roots Rock’n’Roll, Yarn head back to 2012’s Almost Hometo stretch the album cut “Turn the Light On’ into an extended jam as they hop aboard a train-track to head “Down to the Dancehall”. closing out Live Yarn, Vol.1 on the cinematic groove of “Wake Up”.
