Will Hawkins (from the album Cartes No Enviades

Will Hawkins (from the album Cartes No Enviades available on Fastback Records) (by Danny McCloskey)
Based in Los Angeles, Will Hawkins (Nine Mile Station), delivers a solo outing that follows his journey from east to west on his recent release, Cartes No Enviades. The stories on the album begin as Will changes his home-base from New York City to Venice Beach as his words shuffle through the cycles of life, exploring themes that travel through a variety of emotions. Cartes No Enviades (Unsent Letters) opens with lead track “What Your Words Say” where Will Hawkins expresses his hopes as he shows vulnerability as he hops on a rhythmic shuffle to juggle the thoughts in his head with “This is Where you Found Me”. Will Hawkins draws the line and demands answers in “Messy” while he uses “C’Mon Now” as a confessional and celebrates his new home by re-visiting his dreams of the Golden State in “California”.

A stellar cast of backing A-list musicians on Cartes No Enviades includes Leland Sklar (bass), Marty Rifkin (pedal steel), Steve Ferrone (drums), and Ted Russell Kamp (bass) among others. Will Hawkins shares space among his own songwriting to include other authors on the album with Lola Young and David Poe lending their tunes to the roster. A piano march leads Will Hawkins into the salvational stride of Colin Hay’s (Men at Work) “Waiting for My Life to Begin”. A shrug in the rhythm mirrors Will Hawkins mood as he cruises late-night boulevards in “As Good as It Gets” as he introduces “New Friends” on a raucous Rock’n’Roll beat and exits Cartes No Enviades with the familiar Folk tones of “May the Road Rise to Meet You”.
