For his new release, NEEDTOBREATHE co-founder/frontman Bear Rinehart, under the moniker of Wilder Woods, selects stories that peal back the curtain to reveal pieces of the man behind the music. Curioso collects the stories, wrapping the words in a diverse sonic backing. For Curioso, the catalyst for the tales was a childhood memory from his grandmother’s house…’it was a china cabinet where she'd store her keepsakes, like her first Bible, some porcelain dolls, and football memorabilia. As a kid, I always thought it was a strange thing to keep around...but now, I think a curio cabinet can tell you a lot about a person. I love the idea of collecting the pieces of your past, creating a little assortment of things that you really enjoy’. Entering at full gallop, Wilder Woods stitches the excitement of a new adventure into opening track “Swimming in the Ocean”. The rhythmic pulse of “Kind of Magic” is quick, the vocal delivery relaxing against the groove as it delivers a message of love woven into the words while “Where Do We Go from Here” rumbles across the album posing its questions. Gentle strings are plucked underneath “Offering” with Anna Graves joining Wilder Woods for the promises made in the song while Jim James comes on board to share vocals for “Time on Our Hands” and Maggie Rose steps up to the microphone for the slow-burn in “Wild Fire”. A caffeinated beat propels the rhythms in “Hide Anymore” as Curioso follows a frenetic piano note into “Love Last” while Wilder Woods rolls out the dice on the runaway rhythms of “Devil in My Eyes”.
