The Jus’ Blues Music Foundation, host to the annual Jus’ Blues Music Awards (JBMA) Conference in Mississippi, has become a go-to for music lovers embedded in Southern Blues and Soul as well as recognizing top industry professionals working behind the scenes. To celebrate the anniversary of the organization, the recent release, Jus’ Blues 25th Anniversary Legends Collection, gathers top performers for a small sampling of the talent promoted by Jus’ Blues. Appropriately, Diunna Greenleaf kicks off the ten tracks of the Legends Collection warning about the issue concerning “Sunny Day Friends” as Benny Turner sends an audio reminder with “Who Sang It First” while Lucky Peterson closes out the song roster when he shows the exit to the album on a hyper-rhythmic patter of Gospel Blues in “See My Way God”. A harmonica and a powerful vocal are all that Bobby Rush needs to talk about the ‘Garbage Man” as Trudy Lynn cruises on a Hard R&B backbeat for “Turning the Same Ole Corners”. Theodis Ealey claims “Blues is Calling My Name” on a live cut and Latimore slow walks the Blues to a smooth stroll in “Let’s Straighten It Out”. Providing a history lesson, Zakiya Hooker relates a “Bluesman’s Journey” while Jimmy Burns is “Stranded in Clarksdale’ on a smoldering Blues groove and Teeny Turner doses tough times by prescribing a Blue cure in “Ain’t That the Blues”.
