Vandoliers do a lot with a little. A band with their hearts on their sleeves and little-to-no fear to show emotion, even their E.P.’s are packed with a full albums length worth of guts and emotion, which lucky for their growing fanbase, is what you get with their latest five-song effort, the Afterglow EP. 
The one-two album openers of “Girl on the Run” and “Together We Will Sink or Swim” are serious but fun. The former a story of not being accepted and getting out of town; it’s got a stand tall vibe complete with a Stiff Little Fingers or Steve Earle mindset. “Together We Wil Sink or Swim” is a rip-roaring dose of Cowpunk that’s straight from the Irish, rowdy protest scene. They are both rallying tunes.
“Nobodys Fault but My Own” is a ballad of self-reflection and owning up to past mistakes, done so with singalong drama. “Longshot” is a song of wonder and acceptance while album closer, “Compass Rose”, is another beautiful bouncer.
The Afterglow EP is a recording that tells of human change among a changing world, a reveal of lead vocalist Jenni Rose coming out as transgender woman taking on a role in all the songs. With the fiddles and banjos, more Celtic than Country, Vandoliers are a Texas version of The Pogues, an aggressive but passionate band with a lot to say as they make need-to-hear valid points.
