2/8/2025 Valley Flower (from the album Valley FlowerValley Flower (from the album Valley Flower available as a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)
As an introduction to their self-titled release, Valley Flower offer the title track, the story beginning its life on soft Fok Rock and ending on a runaway string band rhythm. A ghosting goodbye tries to explain itself across rowdy rhythms for “Borrowed Time” as Valley Flower question the memories riding along with “Westfalia Van”, deliver a mountain tale looking for an exit on a Rock’n’Roll rhythm that pushes “Run Buddy”, and stop in “Critter Junction” on a train-track beat. Describing themselves as a grassy, folksy, groovy string band based in Austin, Texas by way of Virginia and North Carolina; the influences the band bring with them to their adopted Lone Star home include regional sounds from across the country. Valley Flower are the joy of a fresh breeze for those trapped in winter weather. Playing that blends the instruments into a one-sound band with styles ranging from the Folk backing “Child” to the barn-burning fast-paced foot taps of the local Country dance band in “One Tree”.
