Opening her recent release with the autobiographical title track, Tish Hinojosa relates a lifetime “With a Guitar & A Pen” as traveling companions. Sweet Southwest breezes blow across the Texas tale that carries the gift of life in “Colton’s Perfect Heart” while a harmonica call begins the softly strummed story of “Wild Wild West” as Tish Hinjosa lets her mind wander across Blaze Foley’s “If Only I Could Fly” and honors a mighty steed with “Wild One”. Delivering With A Guitar and A Pen with sparse Southwest Folk instrumentation, Tish Hinojosa lets her soaring vibrato guide the album as she describes a prairie citizen with “His Cowboy Way” as she tenderly builds a story from the world outside her window for “Because of You”. The artistic process is difficult to control, Tish Hinojosa explaining that ‘the artistic muse is more of a mystery. Sometimes, creativity flows so quickly you have to run to keep up. Other times, it feels like the well is empty, and you’ll never find it again’. Clearly, her musical visions clarified in With A Guitar & A Pen. A trio of Spanish language tracks are offered by With A Guitar & A Pen as the album sways in “Luna Traviesa (Mischievous Moon)”,” Flores En El Jardin (Flowers in the Garden)”, and “Canto De La Montana (Song of the Mountain)”.
