The Two Tracks (from the album Seasons Unknown

The Two Tracks (from the album Seasons Unknown available as a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)

Nestled in the embrace of the Bighorn Mountain range of Wyoming, husband and wife team, Dave Huebner (vocals, guitar, cello) and Julie Huebner (vocals, guitar), are core members in The Two Tracks, alongside band members Taylor Phillips (bass) and Fernando Sima (drums). The benefit of living in a state that claims more four-legged Pronghorns than two-legged humans is it allows The Two Tracks create the sound the band hears in their heads rather than following trends. As a result, the music of Seasons Unknown, the recent release from The Two Tracks, blends a myriad of six-string potentials, the sound showing influences of Bluegrass and Rock’n’Roll dosed with the classical cello training of Dave Huebner.

A confession spins in ¾ time when Julie Huebner reveals cracks forming in the life of a woman uttering emotional confessions that spin through “It’s a Waltz”. The rhythm turns drunken when blended with the let-loose plans detailed in “The Night Has Come” as white lines disappear under the wheels aiming for a scheduled destination for “Mexico by Friday”.

For the recording of Seasons Unknown, The Two Tracks returned to Nashville to work with A-list locals, album producer Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider, Rodney Crowell), engineer Sean Sullivan (Sturgill Simpson, Molly Tuttle), and mixer Tina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Tanya Tucker). Propelled onward by the sawing swing of cello strings, The Two Tracks play a song for the highway that lies outside the front window of their tour van as white lines disappear underneath their wheels in “Miles and Miles”. Slow, studied strums play host to a wisdom that offers answers for the distrust that colors all of our actions, and reactions, in 2026 with “Building Walls”. Seasons Unknown sways on the upbeat rhythms of its title track as acoustic guitar notes lay down sluggish steps that walk across the self-awareness words in “Unfinished Life”. The Two Tracks harmonize about approaching doom as they raise a toast and offer a hand to dance with “Sweet World Blues” while an assured groove supports the star-gazing story in “Milky Way”.
