Rhythmic textures mimic the inspirational tone of the album title, What a Time to Be Alive, the recent release from The Lone Bellow. An unbridled joy spins in the whirling groove of “I Did It for Love” while “Staring at the Sun” tells its memories on a caffeinated beat. A fast-track heartbeat subtly guides the rhythms of “You Were Leaving” and “Honeysuckle” spreads sunshine on a determined Folk ramble. The three voices of The Lone Bellow masterfully guide the songs through a variety of tempos and mood changes on What a Time to Be Alive, the seventh studio album from the trio.

Beginning with the self-titled 2013 release, The Lone Bellow (Zach Williams, Kanene Donehey Pipkin, Brian Elmquist) have taken listeners on a magical mystery tour with the beauty of their combined vocals. Recorded in Muscle Shoals, What a Time to Be Alive spans a musical landscape of diverse styles with its songs, ranging from the sharp-edged beat of “Night Goes Black” to the stark notes that frame the near-whispered confessions in “No Getting Over You”. The arrangements of their songs on the album spell out new dimensions in the musical catalog of The Lone Bellow. The Nashville by-way-of Brooklyn trio capture the excitement of their live shows with the release of What a Time to Be Alive when a pulse-quickening tension rides the rhythms of “I’m Here for You”, mirroring the admissions of love in the song’s storyline, while “Common Folk” unites with a worldwide community as it introduces average heroes on the strength of its non-stop beats as “After the Rain” drops its rhythms on a city street groove.
