3/21/2026 The Brook & The Bluff (from the album WerewolfThe Brook & The Bluff (from the album Werewolf on New West Records) (by Bryant Liggett)
The Brook & The Bluff are covering some American-music ground on their latest release, Werewolf. The Nashville outfit flirts with Athens, GA-inspired Southern Rock, which holds on to a sound that is more Indie and experimental garage, less jam, while also pushing out sounds of jangle and the Paisley Underground, sunny Los Angeles and the golden time of Laurel Canyon, and all around Roots rock. It’s quite the package of all-around and good time sound. The album opens with the Werewolf title track, the story tackling all the aforementioned soundscapes; a stuck in your head sound with catchy riffs and punched-up guitar fills. The Brook & The Bluff have crafted a gem in the textbook Pop heard in “Can’t Figure It Out”. “Super Bowl Sunday” starts mid-tempo dramatic before blasting into fist-pumping Rock as the band drops in a revved-up charger with “105”: a rowdy and anthemic tune. There’s a nod to 1970’s heard in the Country Rock harmonies of “I’ll Have It Down.” The Brook & The Bluff do what they can to be both animated and light-hearted; “Change My Mind” is a casual groover, and the album closer, “Moving Along”, digs back into those harmonies in an acoustic cut that’s bright, breezy and beautiful. Werewolf is top to bottom, start to finish catchy, a record that’s easy to ingest and appealing while remaining under-the-radar indie.
